A long time ago...blah, blah, blah.
I grew up in Malton, some people say it's the Bermuda Triangle of Mississauga. I like to view Malton as the village where the AVRO Arrow was born. Oh, and Paul Coffey was born there.
After highschool, I ventured into Fine Arts at York University where I studied Printmaking and Art History. I spent those years with late nights in the printing studio getting my hands dirty with ink and kerosene. I left York with experience in intaglio, lithography and a bit of screenprinting. It was a great learning experience.
I realized that a career in Fine Arts was not for me. Starving isn't a life goal. So, I weighed my options and decided to try my hand in the Illustration Department at Sheridan College. It was night and day and I have to admit had I known ahead of time what difference a practical education makes, I would have skipped Uni and headed straight to Sheridan.
I focused on Editorial Illustration which meant making art depicting lots of business men and esoteric imagery like a giant shoe crushing a politician. It was good fun. It was at Sheridan that I had my first taste for graphic design. I fell for it hard. When I left Sheridan and made an attempt at freelance work as an Illustrator, I polished my skills as a graphic designer.
My first job after working freelance became unrealistic, was for a print shop where I learned the ropes of pre-press and designing brochure, business cards and oddly enough some board games. I worked there from 1999 until 2008. I needed to move on to grow.
That's when I started my current position as graphic designer for Paradigm Electronics. A manufacturer of high end speaker products. My experience here has pushed my skills higher than before. I am involved with packaging, print ads, full colour brochures, owners manuals, photography retouching and a lot more. Plus, this year has seen me take another step in growth, I've transitioned into the role of UI designer at Paradigm. I'm now responsible for the design of their digital presence, ememo graphics, social media and the redesign of their business websites. It's a fun, challenging role and I love every minute of it.
Let me know how I can help you. I'm looking forward to it.
